Comments & annotations¶
Comments are how your team talks about the data instead of around it. You can comment on a card, a dashboard, or a note — and you can pin a comment to a specific row, cell, chart, or passage of text.
Where you can comment¶
| You can comment on | And pin a comment to |
|---|---|
| A card | a single record (row), or a single cell |
| A dashboard | one widget |
| A note | a passage of text you select |
Open the panel with the Comments button in the toolbar. The number next to it is how many open threads there are.
Leaving a comment¶
- Open the Comments panel.
- Type into the box at the top.
- Click Comment, or press ++ctrl+enter++ (++cmd+enter++ on a Mac).
Press ++enter++ on its own for a new line — comments are prose, so paragraphs work.
Mentioning someone¶
Type @ and start typing a name. Pick a colleague from the list and they'll be notified, in the app and — if they've turned email on — by email. Being mentioned also subscribes you to that card, note, or dashboard, so you hear about the replies too.
Mentions respect access
You can only notify someone who can already see what you're commenting on. If you mention a colleague who doesn't have access to a card, their name stays in your comment but they aren't notified — nothing about a card you can see is revealed to someone who can't.
Replying and resolving¶
Click Reply under a comment to add to that thread. Threads are one level deep: every reply lands in the same conversation rather than branching.
When a question has been answered, click Resolve. The thread collapses to a single line and drops out of the open count, but it isn't deleted — click it to read the whole conversation again, or Reopen it if it turns out not to be settled. Use Show resolved to bring the closed threads back into the list.
Anyone who can comment can resolve a thread, not just whoever started it.
Annotating a specific thing¶
A row or a cell. Open a record (click it in the grid, or a point on a map or calendar) and the record's own comments appear at the bottom of the detail panel.
A passage in a note. Select the text you want to talk about and click Comment on selection. Your comment is shown with the quoted passage above it. If the note is later edited so the quoted text is gone, the comment stays, with the quote struck through so you can tell it refers to an older version.
A chart or widget. Open the widget's ⋯ menu and choose Comments. The panel opens filtered to that widget.
Editing and deleting¶
You can edit your own comments; they'll be marked (edited). You can delete your own comments, and workspace admins and owners can delete anyone's. Deleting the first comment in a thread deletes its replies too.
Nobody, including an admin, can edit somebody else's comment.
Who can comment¶
Anyone who can see something can comment on it, including people with view-only access. If a number looks wrong, the person who spotted it can say so whether or not they can change it.
Notifications¶
Comment activity flows into the same notification settings as everything else — you can choose to see comments in the bell, get them by email immediately or in a daily digest, or turn them off per card. See Notifications.
